Believe it or not, we used to be a teenie weenie little website which only got 100 or so unique visitors a day!  So how did we improve traffic and quality?  Here are some tools that you might be interested in. This is NOT a page designed to make us heaps of money for referring webmasters to useless schemes ... we use every single one of these things listed below and highly recommend them! 

Advertising Network - We use the Fastclick network.  They sell about 80% of our inventory, and have the BEST pop-under adverts on the net with some excellent rates. They have also just started offering side-banners (120x600) which work very very well. Best of all, being a medium traffic site wasn't a problem, because unlike most networks, they are best with smaller, or medium sized websites. Fastclick income pays all of our expenses, and so far they haven't missed one single payment. It can be a little hard to be accepted unless you have a pretty well designed site, so make sure everything is working well before you submit.

Tell-A-Friend - We used to use Mailbits for our tell a friend link, however they changed quite a bit (and cancelled payment!), so we had to move over to Supertaf . Supertaf is a great tell a friend network because of the lack of advertising, and the ability to totally customise your tell a friend link!  You can put almost anything on there!  Having a tell a friend link is one of the best ways to get more traffic (only if you have a site or page worth telling someone about!). You can also add your newsletter to the list of newsletters that your viewers can subscribe to!   Payment is on time every time, and we haven't had a single problem with them. They also accept most sites which meet their criteria!

Listing on freepages - There are quite a number of free pages and free search engines for funny sites. While you might not get lots of traffic from them, they will bring in a steady flow of visitors that you can use to form the base from which you build. Many link exchange and pop-up exchange programs require you first to have a few visitors!  We used to have a few we used, but to be honest we got kinda bored of doing it. It is worth digging up a few if you are just getting started and an extra 30 visitors a day is worth the effort.

Do a link swap with us! - Why not do a small plug for ourselves in here!  Seriously, we get good traffic, so why not swap links with Insanity Planet. With many search engines ranking sites with links to them higher than 'stand alone' sites, it makes sense to swap as many links as possible (called boosting your link popularity).  We do link swaps with all kinds of sites.   Small sites are listed on our community page in their relevant section, and larger sites who are willing to do a front page link swap are listed on every page of Insanity Planet!  A good source of traffic.
